Dr. Skibbe was a nice professor and the class was pretty reasonable. I felt I learned a lot of information that will apply to my future career.

I absolutely loved this class! The content of this class is pretty easy. It was mostly common sense stuff in my opinion. But there is a lot of writing assignments. Three articles (lowest grade dropped), the observation paper, three exams, and ten or so pop quizzes. You also get extra credit for volunteering at the Child Development Lab. I'd say an extra fifteen points for playing with little kids for a few hours is well worth it. Professor Skibbe does a really good job teaching the material. She relates the concepts to real examples and she does a lot of class discussion, which makes the material easier to learn. She not only really knows her stuff, but she knows how to teach it as well. Definitely one of the best classes I've taken at MSU so far.

I loved Prof Skibbe. Her exams were easy and she even curved them even though the average grade on the exam was not very low. She gives random pop quizzes, but they were always pretty easy and even if you did not study for it, you should still be able to do well. She posts all of the powerpoints online and she also gives study guides and sample exam questions. She is a really great teacher and made learning easy, because she explains concepts so well. The only downfall is that the final is cumulative, so there is quite a bit of information to know.

Awesome professor. We got along well for the time I was in the class. A lot of writing required but when you get that 4.0 it's worth it.

Nice prof but A LOT of material to know. Exams weren't too bad but the final is cumulative and there is SO much info to know. She gives random pop quizzes that are usually pretty easy. She also gives all projects and paper due dates ahead of time so it's easy to get ahead. Overall a decent class but it is A LOT of studying and material to learn

Very fun class, even if you are not terribly interested in the topic. Her lectures are very engaging and the active learning assignments really add to your learning experience. There final seemed intimidating, since it was the only test for the class, but it wasn't bad. Definitely take her class, but be prepared to write.

Overall, I really liked this class. It was an honors class and they asked Skibbe to teach it about language and literacy acquisition. Her syllabus was structured; there was a lot of work, but it was an honors class after all. Her lectures were pretty boring, but if you took notes and payed attention, you hopefully do good on the one test in her class. The active learning assignments are fun and a really good idea. Skibbe will answer any/all questions quickly. Overall, she's a good teacher. Take her.
