5 “Sexy” Blunders that are Not Sexy

By Ki Zoe Lai on December 20, 2012

Let’s face it. We live in a society where breasts sell bear and cars.  Cosmetics companies spend billions of dollars on advertisements, spoon feeding women the idea that the longer their lashes and the lighter their skin color, the more appealing women are.  While many purchase and use them religiously, what are some ways to overdone them?

Sticky Lip Gloss

Angelina Jolie’s iconic thick lips have always been regarded as sexy.  I personally am a big fan of her, not only for her sultry lips but also for her simplistic yet elegant fashion style.  Who wouldn’t want Angelina’s lips?  However, if you are planning the Angie look by wearing tons of lip gloss, it will only make your lips look like two slugs stuck together on your face.  Too much lip gloss makes the lips look sticky and unnatural, and imagine the wind blowing and your hair getting caught to your lips.  How’s that sexy?

Colored contacts

Am I the only one who thought Rhianna wearing green contacts looked really unnatural?  It is not sexy when you stare at a girl’s eyes and find they are pink, yellow or purple.  Whenever I talk with girls with these unnatural eyes, all I can think of is, “Is that a cataract or colored contacts?”  Please save them for next Halloween, one of the very few legitimate occasions you can get by wearing colored lenses.  I won’t ask if you have a cataract when your blue eyes match with your Marie Antoinette costume.

Unmatched Foundation

The purpose of foundation is to create an even and uniform color tone.  It is not, per se, to completely change your complexion.  Since foundation is the basecoat of your makeup, it is important to keep in mind – less is more. A foundation that is three shades lighter than your natural skin tone, not to mention the inconsistent color between your face and your neck, will make you look like a geisha girl.

False Lashes

False lashes work well when giving your eyes more definition.  However, if the fake lashes are longer than those of Nicki Minaj (Yes! They do exist!), I’m sure you’ve gone way beyond sexy.  Oh and, by the way, eyelashes like that are no longer called “eyelashes.”  They’re called “eye-fans.”

Excessive Fragrance

No matter how fruity, sweet, seductive the fragrance smells, apply it only on the pressure points of your body, such as inner wrist, inner elbow, behind ears and no where else.  Rather than making sure people ten miles away are able to smell your Chanel No.5,  please don’t forget to apply deodorant.  Sweet fragrance and sweat beads do not usually get along and the mixture can potentially create an unbelievably nasty smell.  Do not cover yourself with layers and layers of fragrance on behalf of of all the nasal allergic patients – thank you for your cooperation.

The “everything in moderation” statement does not apply only on our nutritional intake but also on makeup.  Good luck!
