3 Best Foods for Healthy Skin

By Khadija Dukes on September 22, 2014

Healthy, glowing skin is a commodity that acts as a reflection of our overall being. Unfortunately, not everyone is born with perfect, poreless skin. However, with a healthy diet and the right foods you will be one step closer to achieving the healthy, baby soft skin that you desire.

1. Avocados

Avocados are full of healthy, unsaturated fats that help keep the skin moisturized and plump. Avocados also have anti-inflammatory properties due to the abundance of polyphenols and flavanoids found in them. Anti-aging benefits can also be found in avocados due to the large amount of glutathione. Glutathione is an antioxidant that supports the liver, nervous, and immune systems. This antioxidant also replenishes other antioxidants in the body, helping to prevent free radicals that can age the skin.

2. Tomatoes

Another food that is chock-full of anti-aging benefits is the tomato. Tomatoes are full of vitamin A and vitamin C, vitamins that contribute to the production of collagen which keeps the skin plump and firm, preventing wrinkles and fine lines. Tomatoes also keep the skin hydrated and help strengthen skin cells. They have a very high concentration of lycopene, another powerful antioxidant which inhibits the formation of cancerous cells.

3. Fish

Fish, including tuna, mackeral, sardines, and especially wild-caught salmon are also full of healthy fats that contribute to healthy skin. These fatty fish are full of Omega-3 fatty acids that help repair damaged skin cells and give you a healthy glow. The fatty acids in fish can also help reduce redness and swelling. Like avocados, fish contain fatty oils that add to the hydration of skin. Omega-3 fatty acids can also help regulate stress, which can lead to premature aging and fine lines.

By incorporating these delicious and healthy foods into your diet you will see plump, healthy, glowing skin in no time.
