My Top Favorite Christmas Treats

By Daphne Britt on December 9, 2016

My favorite holiday is arriving soon and I’m so excited to be able to experience some of the most delicious treats before Christmas arrives, but I have patience (no, I don’t). Every year when the holidays arrive, I get very excited because it means that I can have my favorite Christmas treats and desserts to get me in to the holiday spirit. From sugary delights to delicious beverages, no treat is spared (unless it’s mint). Even though there is so many treats to choose from, I still love being able to smell fresh baked desserts from the oven on Christmas Eve. But, just as Christmas is a week away I came up with a list of fun, tasty, Christmas recipes that will save you money and have you coming back for seconds. Plus to be able to eat desserts you haven’t had in a while is also a good way to try out all of your favorite Christmas desserts before Christmas arrives, which is literally two weeks away.  Here are my top 5 favorite Christmas treats!

Gingerbread Houses

This fun treat is not only delicious, but it’s also a creative project that will taste even better when you complete it. My mother and I absolutely love making these every year for the holidays. But as much as I enjoy making them, I also enjoy getting to eat one. What’s so interesting about this creative recipe is that you can substitute certain ingredients, such as butter, for a healthier option. With the taste of cinnamon, brown sugar, and ginger, after the first bite you’ll be ready to begin preparing for the holidays. If you want to try this recipe go to foodnetwork.com.

Hot Chocolate

Now I think this is more of a beverage rather than a treat, but hot chocolate is the most delicious treat of them all. The smooth drink has a texture of milk chocolate or even dark chocolate with a layer thin whip cream or marshmallows on top to complete the drink. Just like other recipes you can remove any ingredient for one that you prefer. With a variety of different flavors and styles hot chocolate is still popular on college campuses. As a chocolate lover I can honestly say that this drink is my favorite Christmas treat and it’s easy to make at home. To try this recipe go to allrecipes.com.

Apple Cider

Whenever I’m ready to join in on the holiday spirits, my family will always make hot apple cider on Christmas morning.  Even though it’s a drink, it’s still considered to be popular holiday beverage. What I like about this drink is how sweet and spicy combine in to a perfect mix. Plus hot apple cider is easy to make at home and it’s inexpensive. Whether it’s cold outside or I need help getting to sleep, I know I can always count on this treat to help get me through the day. If you want to try this recipe go to www.foodnetwork.com.

Eggnog

The most popular Christmas drink and another popular treat within my family, is “eggnog.” It’s also one of my favorite drinks to prepare me for the holiday break. Even though this drink is filled with lots of calories, there is a healthier option for you to try. Just like the other recipes this one is easy to partake in changing out specific ingredients such as milk, sugar and egg. For example, instead of using whole milk in your eggnog, you can use almond or skim milk, and instead of sugar you could substitute it for a sweetener instead. If you want to try this recipe go to www.foodnetwork.com.

Having Christmas treats helps me get into the spirit of Christmas and allows me to eat some of my favorite desserts that I had not had I a while. If you’re looking for holiday treats that are easy to make at home, fun, and inexpensive then some of these desserts are right for you! With Christmas right around the corner, what better way to prepare for the holidays then to try out some of your favorite holiday treats!
