College Outfit of the Week: Fall Edition

By Tiffany Sy on November 16, 2016

Happy Tuesday everyone! Tomorrow is Wednesday (AKA hump day) and the weekend gets closer and closer. Everyone seems busy with projects and school these days and that’s great. Finish things strong before the Thanksgiving holiday next week and come back with the mindset of acing those finals.

As you can probably tell by the type of posts that I publish here, I love fashion. It has always been a great passion of mine, and I would love to find an outlet to showcase my fashion tastes as a permanent career. It’s the Fall season but in California, it’s still quite hot. I’m waiting for the moment when it will cool down so I can break out my sweaters and coats.

Today, I have an OOTW, or outfits of the week. They are centered around one item: an Opening Ceremony backpack. I believe this backpack goes well with all of the outfits here since it’s a neutral color.

Monday: Start off the week right with a bold and colorful outfit. Pink may not be everyone’s color but this sweater is really cool with the print in the middle and the turtleneck is an added plus if you live somewhere where it’s kind of chilly. In addition, the shade goes well with the medium washed denim jeans featured. Although I would personally wear dark washed jeans during this time of year, the medium washed pair goes well with the overall look.

What takes this to another level is the fact that it’s mixed media denim and the flared and raw hems give it an extra kick. Speaking of kicks, check out these platforms from Stella McCartney. They are simply a work of art and can’t stop staring at them. They’re a great conversation piece as well. Top it off with a black hat and you’re set for the week.

Tuesday: This is a very similar ensemble to Monday’s. However, it has that tomboyish look and the toned colors. You gotta keep yourself warm if the AC is turned up high in that class with a thick bomber jacket (plus the added hoodie). The white sweater from Karl Lagerfield is also a similar piece to Monday’s sweater since it’s simple but has that print in the middle. Grey goes well with green so I thought I’d throw in some distressed denim jeans in the mix.

Any pair of sneakers will do but this pair of sneakers is also a show-stopper. If you’re short like me, then the platform will give you an extra height. Lastly, the bold and black text on the shoes is a perfect twist on the plain slip-on.

Wednesday: This outfit is very Free People-esque from the very bohemian looking dress. You can still wear bohemian pieces in the Fall and Winter; just tune down the colors. Instead of a bright and tropical dress, opt for something like this dress with muted and toned down colors.

I think this dress pairs well with some great knee-high or over the knee boots. What you can also do if you don’t have tall boots is pair long black socks with some ankle booties. Lastly, tame those bed hairs with a black, slouchy beanie. Feel free to add some of your favorite gold jewelry to make this outfit yours.

Thursday: The weekend is almost here! If you don’t have class on Friday, then this outfit is perfect for going out if you have plans with your friends. I really like this black off-the-shoulder top because of the subtle stripes. It’s not too bold and loud but that small detail makes it different from an ordinary black off-the-shoulder top.

I paired this top with a black skirt that has a similar theme. It looks stretchy so it’s comfortable and the stripes at the bottom pair nicely with the top. To complete the look, feel free to wear any sneaker with this outfit or opt for a black platform sneaker like the one pictured below.

Friday: Happy Friday, everyone! The weekend is here! Whether you are staying in or going out for a night on the town, do it in style. Or if you have class, go to class with style. This ensemble features two Fall trends that I also love.

First, we have the crushed velvet slip in this gorgeous green shade. You can wear this by itself but what’s in these days is to layer a slip dress over a white shirt or a white blouse, as seen below. I think a white blouse makes this outfit more appropriate for going out and makes you look a little more put together.

The other trend is slip on loafers or slip on moccasins. I think everyone should have a pair because it’s so easy to go in an out of and looks classy at the same time.

There you have it: five outfit ideas that center around a backpack that goes with everything. I think these outfits work well in the Fall but can easily be transitioned into different seasons — just swap out certain pieces or play up with the colors.
