Study Style: Look Good, Feel Good, Do Better

By Amanda Cohen on April 11, 2016

As the school year gradually comes to a close, the only thing on our minds is preparing for finals (SO exciting)! When it comes to studying, you want to be comfortable. However, it has been proven that the “Look good, feel good, do good” mentality actually works. So, this article is dedicated to everyone who wants to study and do well on their exams, while also being as comfortable as possible (aka, this article is dedicated to every college student on the planet).

Leggings

Despite what critics says, leggings are pants! Not only are they pants, but they are also extremely comfortable. Yes, they are tight, but the general material of most leggings is extremely breathable and you can move around without feeling constricted. Since leggings are fitted, you have leeway to wear a chunky sweater or a flowy short-sleeve (depending on the weather).

If you are planning to take a workout break in between studying, wear your neon-colored Nikes. However, if your sole focus will be studying, wear Converse or Vans (not the ones that are stained with red soda and dirt from fraternity parties). If it’s cold out and you plan on staying in the library until 1:00 in the morning, wear Uggs; I know people say that Uggs are ugly, but they are comfortable and won’t make or break the new chunky sweater you are sporting.

Joggers

If you are like me, you prefer to wear looser clothing when hitting the books. Joggers are the perfect alternative to sweatpants because they hug the ankles, making them look less “sloppy.” Joggers are the forefront of “athleisure” wear, and I honestly could not be happier.

How do you go about planning a library-appropriate outfit around sweatpants? I’ll tell you! Wear a fitted top (either long-sleeve or short-sleeve) and a loose cardigan over the skin-fitted top. Pair your pants with high-top Converse and a half-up bun and you’re golden! The best part about joggers is that every store sells them and you can find them for a decent price (which is important when you’re on a college student’s budget).

Exercise Clothes

Exercise clothing now revolves around looking presentable, to the point where if your top, leggings, shoes, and headband do not match, you are doing it wrong. Whether or not you are planning to hit the gym after a long day of studying, you can still wear workout clothing because it is cute and comfortable. Patterned yoga pants are always a good move, and you can pair the pants with any solid-colored top. Even tennis shoes have hopped on the workout-fashionista movement and you can find a pair that’s both stylish and useable. Plus, if you opt for this study-outfit choice, you can bust out a few pushups to get you energized when doing your next calculous problem!

Rompers

If you go to school in warmed regions of the United States, rompers are a great way to look cute and be comfortable. I am not saying wear the romper that you would wear when you go bar hopping on Thursday nights, but go for a casual romper made up of a cotton material so you are comfortable. Since rompers have shorts at the bottom, you can sit in any position that is most comfortable without being too exposed. If the library tends to be overly air conditioned, bring a cardigan to wear over your shoulders (loose on loose is actually very trendy at the moment, so don’t worry about looking like a bag).

Party Pants

Despite the suggestive name, “party pants” are not only meant for partying. Party pants are loose patterned pants that are easy to move in and are a great alternative to skinny jeans. Since it is technically spring (even though the weather is saying otherwise) it is acceptable to wear your pastel colored pants with a white top and beige cardigan. Instead of wearing the heels you would wear with the pants if you were going out for a night on the town, wear sandals or Vans to complete the look. Put your hair in a messy ponytail or bun and get going to the library!

The best websites to buy comfortable study clothing, especially when on a budget, are Brandy Melville, Target, Revolve (mostly their sale items), Nordstrom Rack, and any other large department store website. So, I encourage everyone to embrace the “look good, feel good, do good” mentality and follow these fashion tips! Trust me, you can look good at the library without having to pile pounds of makeup on your face and without having to break the bank.

Who says you have to sacrifice being a fashionista for being a good student? Well, if anyone says this, you can prove them wrong without even having to say anything. Just show up to the library looking like your amazing self and that will be proof enough.
