Which Late-Night Host Would Be Your Ideal Roommate?

By Elana Goodwin on December 7, 2015

Having a roommate or roommates during college can be both fun and difficult at times — when you live with people and see and interact with them daily, you want to get along with and enjoy those people.

Many of us either watch late-night talk shows nightly or catch up on last night’s segments the next day on YouTube — so I’d say most people are familiar with the various men hosting late-night talk shows today.

But which one would be your ideal roommate? Read on to find out.

If you like pranks (sometimes mean-spirited), a sharper biting sarcasm, and someone who doesn’t pull their punches and can ask hard-hitting questions, the late-night host who would be your ideal roommate is …

JIMMY KIMMEL.

Do you love or hate Matt Damon? Either way, with Jimmy Kimmel as a roommate you’re in luck when it comes to the Boston actor since Kimmel will probably relegate Damon to the basement or a closet so you can live with him too!

Additionally, you can be in the know on Kimmel’s pranks, help him find mean tweets about celebrities, and tag along when he hangs with famous couple pals like Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux and John Krasinski and Emily Blunt.

If you like sarcasm, a balance of funny and serious, a political aficionado, and someone who likes making fun of pop culture, the late-night host who would be your ideal roommate is …

STEPHEN COLBERT.

For Comedy Central fans and those who love political satire, living with Colbert would be a dream come true. You’d always be up-to-date on current events and you could joke around with Colbert and ask each other big questions. Also, you just know Colbert and Jon Stewart hang out and you could totally tag along.

And, if you’re into “The Hunger Games,” you and Colbert can dress up together as Effie Trinket and Caesar Flickerman and drink wine and talk presidential candidates.

If you enjoy playing games, having a good time, and want a roommate who’s friendly and outgoing and is someone who doesn’t take anything too seriously, your ideal late-night host roommate is …

JIMMY FALLON.

You may not get a lot of work done with a roommate like Jimmy Fallon, but who cares if you get to have living room lip sync battles, play box of lies and wheel of impressions, and incorporate word sneaks into your everyday conversations?

You’ll also have to do extra cleaning around the house if you and Fallon play egg Russian roulette and water war, but it’d be so worth it. Plus, you could maybe guest rap along in the next history of rap Fallon does with Justin Timberlake. (Bonus: Jimmy’s friends with Timberlake so he’d be at your place all the time).

If you like someone who’s more serious but still funny, and who knows how to talk about anything from politics to pop culture, the late-night host who would be your perfect roommate is …

SETH MEYERS.

As former head writer at SNL and the previous Weekend Update host, Meyers would definitely be able to help you with essays and update you on current events in the mornings.

With Seth as a roommate, you could expect to see Fred Armisen and Bill Hader hanging out at your place, and other SNL members would probably stop by too, so you’d have your own personal comedy fest happening in the living room. And those times when Amy Poehler (Seth’s former Weekend Update co-host) would stop by would simply be the best.

If you enjoy a British accent, a British sense of humor, a man who is silly and huggable, and someone who’s got an infectious laugh and bubbly personality, your ideal late-night host roommate is …

JAMES CORDEN.

Not only is Corden super funny, but he can sing too (and has won a Tony Award!), so your house or apartment would always be filled with the “Into the Woods” star’s awesome voice.

Also, as a Brit, you could just listen to the sound of his voice and accent all day. As Corden’s roommate, you could also totally tag along in the backseat on his Carpool Karaoke segments and sing with famous artists, or you and Corden could drive around yourselves and belt out tunes.

So which of these late-night talk shows hosts would be your ideal roommate? Maybe they’d be interested in doing a bit for their shows and moving in with college students for a week … probably not, but living with one of the James’, Seth, or Stephen would be amazing.

Alas, we’ll have to settle for having them on our TV, phone, or laptop screens.
