VS Fashion Show: The Sexiest Night of The Year
It’s finally that time of the year we have all been waiting for. No, not Christmas. Fifty times better: The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show! It’s the one day of the year where women and men, regardless of sexuality, drool in front of their TV’s watching the hottest women—I mean, Angels—in the world as they walk the runway in million-dollar lingerie. All of us girls want to be an Angel and all guys want to marry one. Why does this one-hour event attract all of the hottest celebrities, performers, and millions of viewers? Because the Angels have become America’s biggest fad, obsession, and guilty pleasure. Gay or straight, male or female—who doesn’t enjoy watching Adriana Lima walk the runway in a million-dollar bra with Kanye West performing by her side? It is the day when Facebook blows up with links to past VS Fashion Shows and every college girl’s cover photo becomes a picture of all of the Angels laughing together at the end of the runway. After the VSFS, all girls in America ask themselves the same questions: Why don’t I look like that? When do I get my wings?
And then proceed to eat a cucumber.
I encourage you, however, to not ask yourself these questions and compare your body to the nearly-naked models on the runway. Instead, take the fashion show for the fun and light sixty minutes that it is and enjoy it! If anything, use the models as motivation to run an extra ten minutes at the gym. Just don’t compare yourself to them because, let’s be honest, the Angels are simply not real humans. The fashion show will be far more enjoyable to watch with this mindset. Trust me. It’s okay to have popcorn and pizza instead of a cucumber with fat-free ranch.
With that being said, The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is one of my favorite days of the year for many reasons. Most importantly, the Angels. At this point, I feel as though they are my friends (and all other VSFS fans can say the same). I follow every single one of them on Instagram (Lily Aldrige and Candice are my faves) and am in awe of their beauty.
Secondly, the actual show itself is one hour of pure fun and entertainment. It is literally a party on the runway. Victoria’s Secret has the hottest performers of the year performing live as the Angels walk the runway (Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Jay Z, Nicki Minaj, to name a few…) so you get to enjoy the fashion show and watch incredible live performances at the same time. My favorite runway moment was from the 2011 show where Adam Levine performed and walked down the runway with his girlfriend at the time, Anne Vyalitsyna, and gave her a kiss at the end! All VSFS followers know the exact moment I’m talking about.
The hype around the fashion show is always absurd the week it debuts. All social media sites explode with pictures of the Angels. As I mentioned earlier, girls’ Facebooks become entirely dedicated to the fashion show. Last year, one of my Facebook friends even went so far as to crop her head into Adriana Lima’s body and make it her profile picture. After all of this hype, we can only hope that the show lives up to our expectations. I am going to be honest, the 2012 show was a huge let down while the 2011 show remains my all time favorite. This year, I can only hope that the VSFS team gets their act together and provides us with a 2011-quality show.
The 2013 fashion show was filmed in November at the Lexington Avenue Armory in New York City. The performers include Taylor Swift, Fall Out Boy, A Great Big World, and Neon Jungle. The runway is glitter infused and Candice Swanpoel will debut the $10.5 million fantasy bra. The six different sections of the fashion show include: Military Invasion, Birds of Paradise, Parisian Nights, Shipwrecked, Snow Angels, and PINK Network.
The different sections are also a great excuse to drink a different mixed drink to match the theme of each section. The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show can become your pregame!
The PINK section is always my favorite as it is most colorful, upbeat, and fun. Hopefully they kill it this year like they did in 2011 with Nicki Minaj’s performance of Super Bass. This year’s show has an interesting combination of performances, and I am curious to see how they blend together. I’m not a huge Taylor Swift fan, but I think it will be very amusing to watch her perform and walk alongside the models. Check out how much the Angels love T Swift.
There were many new Angels added this year. A few of the newbies are Joan Smalls, Cara Delevingne, and Leo DiCaprio’s girlfriend Toni Garrn. Unfortunately, Miranda Kerr is not returning for this year’s fashion show, as she left Victoria’s Secret in April. Aside from Miranda, all of your favorite Angels are back on the runway this year! From the previews I have seen, it looks like it is going to be a 2011-worthy show. Who doesn’t love a bejeweled runway?
So, if you haven’t yet, set your DVR’s to record the 2013 Victoria’s Secret Fashion show on CBS TONIGHT at 10/9 c! Change your cover photo, set your Facebook status, tweet #VSFS2013 and join the VSFS obsession.
